The Babadook - Film Review
Kent is a natural at making a grim and horrifyingly scary film. She ignores common hollywood tropes by giving a unique psychological horror centred around a troubled single mother with a difficult child.
A so called 'children' book is read which disturbs both the mother and the child, which then leads the boy to believe the contents of the book to be true.
More than a scary monster movie, the film explores the inner psyche of Essie Davis' character masterfully by offering scenes of genuine suspense formulating around her character. Direction, editing and overall tone in particular excel this film to be horror gold.
The Babadook contributes formidably into the horror genre by transcending what is normally expected.
