Blade Runner 2049 - Film Review

Denis Villeneuve takes a rather solemn and sombre take to the Blade Runner franchise, giving Ryan Gosling the leading man. BR2049 takes the time throughout the film to give the audience a sense of space and scope to the world portrayed, while also arousing the moviegoers with its utterly breathtaking and expert cinematography.

The movie shies away from presenting a truck load of past references from the previous film, which is a breathe of fresh air for a 21st century sequel/reboot.

Gosling propels this film by his hushed but powerful performance and engages the audience in the investigation he is carrying out. Ford returns for his role as Deckard, a troubled and un-recalled man that assists Gosling's investigation. The film constantly makes sure your paying attention at all times so you can pick up even the most small-scale information. Though at times, the small information can be lost in its large scale world.

An 'easy going' and 'simply enjoyable action flick' would be mistakes to describe the film, as it constantly asks you to be on your feet about information and (lack of a better word) story that the film drops. Although, some smaller plot elements I still struggle to comprehend. But the plot isn't all thats showering this movie, strong and striking character growth drive our leading protagonist and the plot.

BR2049 revisits a world well worth revisiting, with stellar visual effects, a plot that, at times, can get slightly muddled but mainly maintains its focus. Also highlighting our invigorating main lead with exceptional development. This isn't just pure entertainment, its an experience to be had on the widest screen possible.

Blade Runner 2049 gets an 82%
