Murder on the Orient Express - Film Review
Murder on the Orient Express is an old fashioned murder mystery, on a train, which is very nice to see nowadays. Its long sweeping cinematography is stunning, as well as its scenery that the train travels through. Our lead character, Hercule Poirot, played by Kenneth Branagh, is a detective, who is trying to get to the bottom of a mysterious murder that has happened on the train. This is a suspenseful, dark, yet light hearted film that is a pure joy from start to finish.
This film succeeds on its aesthetic as well as its gorgeous costume design which really makes you feel in the moment. The side characters, though slightly under-utilised, are very entertaining and really make you divided on who the killer could be. The performances are all universally brilliant, with Branagh clearly stealing the film. It also dives into themes of revenge and remorse, which was a nice touch.
The movie drops hinted clues throughout the film for you to connect in your head, which made it a fun film experience, instead of a dull waste of time. Murder on the OE is a perfectly enjoyable and fun film. Its technical side is beautiful, and its story side is very entertaining, and presents a variety of characters that are established enough, but could have been given more. This is nothing spectacular or amazing, its just a easy, enjoyable watch.
