Coco - Film Review
Coco is Pixar's newest original film, and follows our lead character Miguel as he ventures into the land of the dead, on the Mexican holiday 'Dia de los Muertos'.
Coco offers an accurate depiction of The Day of the Dead in Mexico, as well as a visual feast of beauty in the works of animation. Once Miguel enters the land of the dead, that's when the real magic begins, with creative and insightful ideas on memories, family, and death itself.
The main theme of Coco resides mainly in the context of family, and displays that both beautifully and heartfelt. Unfortunately, some of Coco's story beats do feel too familiar, and often cliched, but this never truly takes away from the magic of the film, though merely takes away some originality.
The music is all universally great, with in particular 'Remember Me' which is by far the standout. The emotion that Pixar displays is undoubtedly resonant with Coco, notably in the last 10 minutes or so which did bring a tear to my eye.
Coco is by far Pixar's best since Inside Out, and other than some familiarity to story elements, Coco is bright, humorous, and poignant, and is a worthy edition to Pixar's library.
